The days are getting shorter again and there is more time to read, hence we are starting a new blog series about exceptional hobbies. In this series we would like to give you a look behind the scenes of tmc and introduce some of our employees who pursue versatile activities. In addition to their shared passion for the digitization of rail transport, many of our employees have very interesting, sometimes unusual, leisure activities that they enjoy pursuing alongside their jobs.
Senior AI Developer and Ironman: Meet Fabian!
Please meet Fabian! The mathematics graduate from Bonn has been part of our team as Senior Developer AI since May 2022. Fabian works together with his colleagues from Linz and India to ensure that track machines can detect obstacles in the best possible way and provide the operator with the necessary feedback. For example, this should prevent cables from being cut or sleepers from being pressed steadily. Among other things, a lot of image material has to be evaluated and data labeling has to be done or controlled so that the corresponding data can be made available to the AI.
In addition to his exciting and demanding professional work, Fabian is an enthusiastic and ambitious athlete. As a teenager and young student, he first rode a lot on an old road bike and then on a mountain bike, covering a good 2,000 to 3,000 meters in altitude. In winter, running was his alternative sport. Through a club, he also got into competitive swimming, which made the idea of participating in an Ironman as a triathlete obvious.
From Ironman to marathon runner
Fabian competed in a total of four different Ironman competitions. Once he started in Klagenfurt, the other competitions took place in Italy and Germany. During these special sporting challenges Fabian experienced quite different physical and mental challenges and last but not least the unpredictable weather conditions. During his first half Ironman, for example, it was a hot 35 degrees.
In the meantime, Fabian focuses more on running and takes part in various marathons, such as the one in Frankfurt. For his athletic achievements, Fabian trains not only on the weekends, but also in the evenings after the office, which is a nice balance and part of his everyday life.
We wish Fabian many more sporting challenges and continued enjoyment of his special hobby!
