We are pleased to introduce you to our tmc colleague in the USA, Anthony. The electrical engineering graduate has been with tmc for 1.5 years now and works for tmc from the Plasser America office in Chesapeake, Virginia. In his private life, Anthony is very interested in 3D printers and uses them to make special toys for his two children, among other things.
From New York City to Pennsylvania and Virginia
Originally from New York City, Anthony studied Electrical Engineering and Astrophysics in Pennsylvania. Anthony moved to Virginia with his wife and two children to work at tmc. Anthony is responsible for background checks and monitoring of products shipped to the U.S., and he has been monitoring a lot of tmMDC modems lately. tmMDC stands for tmc’s Machine Data Connector, which allows real-time monitoring of track machines from anywhere.
Team spirit across the Atlantic
He is part of the Austrian operations team and turns to his colleagues in Austria for questions and coordination of any kind. As Anthony explains, much of the communication takes place via e-mail or internal company chats, as this has proven to be the most practical solution due to the six-hour time difference. In urgent cases, however, there are of course telephone consultations. Anthony greatly appreciates his colleagues and is delighted with their support and commitment. In his opinion, there is no language barrier; communication with the Austrian team also works smoothly in English.
Passionate Hobby 3D printing
Creating works of art using 3D printing became Anthony’s hobby four years ago. Initially, he used software that made it possible to design prototypes for 3D sculptures on a PC. He now works with a Bambu Lab A1 printer.
Various types of plastic are used and melted in the 3D printers, whereby the printer becomes very, very hot at up to 300° Celsius. It takes around seven hours to print a medium-sized figure. Colour printing is also possible, which is particularly appealing to his daughter, who now always wants Anthony to create new toy ideas. He also uses the 3D printer himself to create useful household aids, such as various handles, but also for his colourful collection of different sculptures. See his printers as well as some of his sculptures here.
Thank you for the great insights, Anthony, a 3D printer sounds very exciting! All the best for the rest of your time at tmc.
